  • Built-in Parachutes: Every single wispy white hair attached to a dandelion seed is called a papus. It acts like a tiny umbrella or parachute that catches the breeze and can carry the seed up to 5 miles away! [1, 2]
  • Sleeping Flowers: Dandelions are like sleepyheads. They open up wide in the morning when the sun comes out, but they close tight shut at night or when it looks like rain. [1, 2, 3, 4]
  • Lion's Teeth: The name "dandelion" comes from old French words (dent-de-lion) which mean "lion's tooth." People thought the sharp, jagged edges of their green leaves looked just like a lion's sharp teeth
