Dandelions are tough little plants with sunny yellow heads! Their name means "lion's tooth" in French because of their jagged leaves, and every part of the plant is useful. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Built-in Parachutes
  • Each fluffy white puffball holds many tiny seeds.
  • Every single seed has a small feathery umbrella.
  • The wind catches these parachutes to fly far away. [1, 2, 3]
Sleepy Flowers
  • Dandelions love the warm sun.
  • They open their bright petals in the morning.
  • They close up tight at night or when it is dark. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Super-Long Roots
  • Dandelions have a long main root called a taproot.
  • This root can grow deep underground like an anchor.
  • It helps the plant survive dry days and bounce back after being mowed
