Friedensreich Hundertwasser was a playful Austrian artist and architect who hated boring straight lines. He believed buildings should look like fairy tales, nature should grow on rooftops, and people should paint their own walls. [1, 2, 3]
No Straight Lines
  • He thought straight lines were unnatural and boring.
  • He loved wobbly, curvy, and dancing lines.
  • His buildings look soft, wiggly, and alive. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Trees as House Tenants
  • He believed trees were important guests on buildings.
  • He planted real forests on top of his roofs.
  • He called trees his "tree tenants" who shared the home. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
