Kiddos are fascinated with Outer Space! When I was a Reggio Emilio teacher, we spent an entire month learning about the ins and outs of the Solar System. Inevitably we always have a conversation about aliens and so this is a fun way to play with paint and imagination.
For this project I would use 9x12 paper and break this down as a series of shapes. Lots of simple patterns here and more advanced artists can add more detail if they so desire.

Outer space is a giant, super cool place! Three amazing facts include: footprints on the Moon will stay there for millions of years because there is no wind, Saturn is so light it could float in a big pool of water, and astronauts actually grow taller when they float in space! [1, 2, 3, 4]
Footprints on the Moon
- The Moon has no air or wind.
- There is no rain to wash things away.
Floating Saturn
- Saturn is a giant gas planet.
- It is mostly made of lightweight gas, not heavy rock.
Growing Taller in Space
- On Earth, gravity pushes down on our bodies.
- In space, there is very little gravity pulling down.
- Astronauts stretch out and grow up to two inches taller until they come back home.
