Joseys Art School Episode #39 Winter Art Camp 4 Lessons Birds in a Tree

Birds use neat tricks to stay safe and cozy when it is cold outside. They wear fluffy feather coats, shiver on purpose to make body heat, and hide tiny snacks all around like little detectives! [1, 2, 3, 4]
Super Fluffy Jackets
  • Trap warm air: Birds puff out their feathers to make a warm air pocket.
  • Like a down jacket: It keeps them from feeling the chilly wind.
  • Look twice as big: A fluffed-up bird looks like a round, cozy ball. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Shivering to Stay Warm
  • Built-in heaters: Birds shiver on purpose to make their muscles create heat.
  • Super fast engines: Their bodies burn food fast to keep a high temperature.
  • Tiny but mighty: Small birds like chickadees stay warm even when it freezes. [1, 2]
Hiding Snacks for Later
  • Food memory: Some birds hide seeds and nuts in hundreds of secret spots.
  • Super brain power: They grow a special part of their brain to remember where they put everything.
  • Winter treasure hunt: They find their hidden snacks when other food is hard to see
