Josey's Art School Presents Episode #17: Beginner Art Journaling Art Classes Kids Adults

Making art helps kids build fine motor skills, express feelings they cannot say, and turn everyday trash like egg cartons and bottle caps into creative tools. [1, 2]
Brain and Body Boosts
  • Writing prep: Scribbling with crayons and holding paintbrushes build hand muscles needed for tying shoes and writing letters.
  • Problem solving: Kids test ideas and learn cause and effect, like seeing how pressing harder makes a darker crayon mark. [1, 2]
Emotional Expression
  • Safe outlet: Art lets children process big or confusing feelings before they have the spoken words to explain them.
  • Self-esteem: Making choices about colors and shapes gives young kids their very first feelings of independence and personal control. [1, 2]
Everyday Creativity
  • Trash to treasure: Cardboard boxes, paper towel rolls, and bottle caps often spark more imagination than expensive store-bought toys.
  • Process over product: For young kids, the joy is in the messy action of creating rather than the final look of the project.
